Find out about me

I was born in Colnbrook, Berkshire, and spent the majority of my childhood growing up in Windlesham, Surrey. Having attended school and Sixth Form College in Camberley, Surrey, I worked for 21 years with Barclays. After leaving in 2008, I have worked in several companies before deciding to study and qualify as a Certified Bookkeeper. Having celebrated becoming 40 in 2011, it’s about time I do something I enjoy and have experience and strengths to succeed. superman

About my life…

Yateley, Hampshire, is where I now live, with my partner Mark, our British Bulldog and two cats – we have lived in our current home since 2005. Mark and I were married in 2011 (Civil Partnership) after being together for 10 years. Both of us enjoy travelling, which we have done a great deal of, and family is very important to us. We each have our own hobbies – I love theatre and running. I run regularly most Sundays, with friends, and often enter organised races too – I successfully completed the London Marathon in 2008 and 2010 (beating my previous run with 4 hours, 32 minutes). I like a challenge and have jumped out of an aircraft, trekked the Great Wall of China, walked the Inca Trail in Peru and hiked 100km in 24-hours – Trailwalker UK – to name but a few! Most daring events, which I take part in, are for two reasons: firstly, to raise valuable funds for charities and, secondly, to give me a buzz – a great feeling to know I have completed my goal!

About me…

img_0365 I have a thorough and logical understanding of the most complex of tasks; I have the ability to organise, plan and manage workstreams, to effectively deliver the best outcome, taking all priorities into account. I consistently exceed personal targets and deadlines, whilst ensuring that all activities actively support my employers’ / client’s values; the ability to work on my own initiative is a natural strength, but I also love to be part of a team. I am a positive ‘can do’ person who is versatile and adaptable. I always treat people as individuals, and I am very conscious that people have their own preferences and react in different ways when it comes to communication styles. I am passionate about building strong relationships, and I communicate successfully at all levels with strong interpersonal skills and a proactive and positive personality. books

About my career…

My work with Barclays provided vast opportunities to work with customers directly – both personal and business – where I developed a thorough understanding of what customers require to improve their finances – in most cases, this was structure, organisation and a clear understanding of their finances. Of course, everyone is different so I successfully provided help and support in exactly the way each customer needed (and, in most cases, wanted). Since leaving Barclays, my jobs have been varied, many of which I continue today. I tried a couple of sales roles, followed by becoming involved with the Local District Council’s Electoral team – I still work as a Presiding Officer when elections take place. In addition to working for a small construction company, taking on a variety of responsibilities, I became a Postman with Royal Mail, which has proved a really enjoyable job meeting lots of people and allowed me time to study. Having commenced my studies in 2012, I have already achieved Level 1, 2 Manual and 2 Computerised in Bookkeeping. So, now I have started my own business! This means I can hopefully appreciate the challenges you (may) also face in your business, first hand.
